As a Clinical Professor and mother of young children, Julie navigates the complex world of technology with a deep commitment to highlighting its ethical dimensions and potential harms. She actively promotes responsible tech use through her course, "Technology and Social Issues," aimed at Bachelor level social work students. This course equips students with critical thinking skills to explore digital privacy, the digital divide, and technology's impact on social policies, inspiring them to advocate for tech justice in their future roles.
Leveraging insights from her course, Julie empowers care workers, advocates, and organizations to approach technology with a critical and ethical mindset. She integrates course principles to work towards democratic tools that emphasize participation, transparency, media literacy skills and equal voice, fostering a digital consensus that reflects diverse needs and voices of the 21st-century clientele.
Through her teaching and advocacy in her community, Julie is committed to building an equitable, just, and inclusive digital future. She and her students are laying the groundwork for a future where technology enhances the social fabric, enriching the lives of community members in meaningful ways, ensuring technology acts as a force for good in society.
