Tonya Bibbs, PhD, LCSW is committed to a future in which families have what they need to flourish. Her current scholarship focuses on supporting the families of infants and toddlers through two-generation approaches. As a senior research associate at James Bell Associates, she draws upon her extensive experience in social work and child development to conduct evaluation and capacity building in child welfare and child and family development. Her approach combines Black critical theory with community-engaged social science to co-design research and evaluation grounded in principles of social justice. Previously, as an Associate Professor of Social Work at Erikson Institute she focused on Black children’s well-being and racial equity in prenatal to five systems including evaluations of Quality Rating Improvement System and Illinois’ Early Learning Council. As a social work practitioner, she led a statewide infant and early childhood mental health consultation initiative, and designed professional development for home-based child care. Tonya enjoys spending time with family and friends, finding the best chocolate chip cookies in Chicago, power yoga, and rowing.
